History
Waddington, located just 5 miles south of Lincoln, is a village rich in history and charm. The Viking Way, which passes through Waddington, serves as a reminder of the ancient Celts who farmed the cliff tops west of Roman Ermine Street over 1,500 years ago, before being overtaken by Viking warriors.
This historic village, recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, was primarily an agricultural community until the late 19th century. In its earlier days, Waddington was also known for horse racing on the heathland, which is now part of the RAF station, now famously home to the Red Arrows. Over time, the village has seen various industries, including malting, brickmaking, and stone-quarrying.
Waddington is proudly known as a Lincolnshire Cliff Village, situated on a ridge of Jurassic limestone known as the Lincoln Edge or Lincoln Cliff, offering a picturesque and storied backdrop for modern living.
