It’s Never Too Early To Start Your Christmas Shopping!

30 November 2022

Less than one month to go… it’s definitely time we start getting into the Christmas spirit. That’s if you haven’t already started adding fairy lights to every window sill, springs of greenery to picture frames or dotting candles absolutely everywhere.
Living in Lincolnshire, you are blessed with being surrounded by communities that really do get into the festive swing of things. From the city to the country and the coast, this glorious county of ours pulls out all the stops to make sure the festive season is memorable for all the right reasons.

Still unsure of where to spend time getting into the spirit of things? Let us shine a twinkling light on some of our favourite Christmas events…

Lincoln Christmas Market

Lincoln at Christmas

It wouldn’t be Christmas in Lincoln without the famous Christmas Market. Celebrating its 40th year the market is a far cry from the 11 stalls it began with. Today you’ll find hundreds of stalls, crafts, food and drink, fairground rides and entertainment – the perfect, but much like Dasher too fleeting, festive market.

This year’s market is running from December 1 until December 4, admission is free, and park-and-ride services will also be available. Known for drawing hundreds of thousands of additional bodies to the city, if you prefer time to wander we recommend visiting on Thursday and Sunday afternoons before the crowds descend and after they have disappeared.

Cinderella at Belvoir Castle

From November 18th until January 1st, you can step into a real-life fairy tale at Belvoir Castel. For, as the clock strikes 12, this stunning backdrop will be transformed into a truly breathtaking Cinderella-themed scene. Wander through the lavishly decorated spaces, for an unforgettable family Christmas experience. Your little ones can meet Father Christmas and his special friends, and you can admire the exquisite gardens, adorned with a spell-binding path of twinkling lights that lead you to the Engine Yard for shopping, Christmas-themed food and more. Find out more.

Father Christmas

Father Christmas

Meet the big man himself at various locations across the county – all dressed up to be a suitable backdrop for Santa’s leave from the North Pole. While there are countless places to meet St Nick, we love the experience at Rand Farm Park and Uncle Henry’s. Two family-friendly locations that have already earned their stripes as destinations for a great day out, both venues offer a Santa Experience too.

At Rand, the experiences take place daily between 10am-4.30pm and can be booked between November 26th and December 24th. And it isn’t just Santa arriving at Rand, Mrs Claus is coming with him. Journey through festive zones, enjoy biscuit decorating, sing at the Elf Academy and visit Santa in his Grotto – there’s even real reindeer. New for this year too, are mid-week ‘on the farm with Santa’ events – designed to give toddlers the chance to enjoy a Christmas experience without being overwhelmed. (Adults from £12.95; Children (2 and over) from £19.95, book here).

Over at Uncle Henry’s Farm Shop, you can meet the big man when he makes an all-important stop-off at the celebrated farm shop. Visit his grotto, meet the elves, sing, dance and have a go at making reindeer food ready for Christmas Eve. Children better be careful, Santa will be checking his naughty and nice list at Uncle Henry’s, if they’re on the ‘good’ list golden tickets will be handed out to redeem in the toy shop. Taking place December 17th-23rd, 10am-3pm, book here

The Santa Fun Run

If you don’t believe in there being just one, real, Santa, what about hundreds? Lincoln’s annual Santa Fun Run is back for 2022 on December 18th with an 11am start time. Watch or take part as Santas flood the city over a 3.5km course which takes runners – or should that be Santas – around some of Lincoln’s most iconic landmarks starting and ending on Castle Hill. There is a registration fee required for runners, it’s all for charity, and for spectators it’s free. Find out more here.

Lincoln Christmas Illuminations

Christmas Lights

An early event to get you in the spirit of the season, on November 17th the annual Christmas Lights Trail returns to Lincoln. A stunning addition to the calendar this year some new lights are joining the trail alongside some firm favourites from last year. Larger-than-life, light illustrations will be illuminating the city streets until the end of December, so you’ve got plenty of time to bathe in the festive glow. Find out more here.

Christmas at Doddington

For us, it isn’t Christmas until a trip to Doddington Hall & Gardens.  The most magical experience, from the decorated hall itself full of traditional Elizabethan festive scenes, to the Bauble Barn – there is something for the whole family.  Find out more here.
