One of Lincolnshire’s best-kept secrets is the number of fantastic schools, colleges and universities we have to enjoy. In particular, the huge range of officially ‘Outstanding’ schools, as rated by Ofsted.
And our quality selection of educational establishments doesn’t even end there. Our colleges and universities also offer a top-level educational experience for all.
Types of schools
State Schools
State schools are schools that receive funding through their local authority or directly from the government. These include Community/Local Authority Schools that follow the national curriculum.
Grammar Schools
Grammar schools are schools that select their pupils based on academic ability, having an entrance exam to get into the school. Grammar schools are run by either a local authority, a foundation body, or an academy trust.
Private Schools
Private/Independent schools are not funded by the government, they charge fees for pupils to attend. Private schools must be registered with the government and are inspected regularly.
Pupils attending private schools do not have to follow the national curriculum.
Academy Schools
Academy schools receive funding directly from the government and are run by a not-for-profit academy trust. Academies have more control over how they do things than community schools, they can change how they are run, set their own term times and can follow a different curriculum.
Academies do not charge fees and schools can choose to become an academy. However, if a school that is funded by the local authority is judged as ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted, then it must become an academy school.
At Lindum Homes, we know that one of the biggest factors you consider when moving is the quality of education in the area. So we’ve done the hard work for you, and put together a guide of some of the schools, colleges and universities that Lincolnshire has to offer.
